Book List For June

This is a good time to read some old favorites as well as find out what’s new.

Infant to two years

For the youngest children, it is a good time to find water proof books. Children spend time in the tub and pools and it is a great time to have them “read” while cooling off. Several books have been adapted to bath time and are printed for that purpose.

Fisher Price publishes a set of books--Look What I See--that are vinyl and perfect for this age.

Children of this age love with the following titles:

  • The Rainbow Fish, Marcus Pfister
  • Spot Goes Splash!, Eric Hill
  • Spot’s Bath, Eric Hill
  • Splish Splash, Joan Bransfield Graham

Beatrix Potter has some vinyl books that children love:

  • Splash Peter Rabbit
  • The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck
  • The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Two-year-olds to five-year-old children:

This age child will enjoy all the old favorites such as

  • The Very Busy Spider, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, From Head To Toe, Eric Carle
  • Let’s Count, Tana Hoban
  • Over in the Meadow, Olive Wadsworth
  • Little Blue and Little Yellow, Leo Lionni

Ages six and up:

This age child will enjoy a chapter book with a parent or teacher sharing the reading with the child. Art and field trips can also be used to enhance the stories. Suggestions would be:

  • Junie B. Jones series
  • Matilda, Roald Dahl
  • John, Paul, George and Ben, Lane Smith
  • Roasted Peanuts, Tim Egan
  • The Curse of the Bologna Sandwich, Greg Trine
